Tuesday's Travels 33

Plenty of you knew this was Venice and the Bridge of Sighs. Points this week go to Gera, Yamini, Hilary, Millie & Walter, Harm and Gerrit.
My story? The first time I ever visited Venice was back in 1989, when I was living in Medulin in what was then Yugoslavia and is now Croatia. Me and a colleague took a boat from Pula to Venice and spent the day there. I have been back several times since, but for some reason I have always thought of it as a dirty and busy place. Yes, I know getting off the beaten track is the way to go, but the sheer volume of people visiting would suggest plenty of money coming in and I think it is used for a lot of things but cleaning the city. Rant over!

On to this week's challenge and I told you it would be a special one where there is a prize to win. And it is like all the other challenges: give me the right answer and you're in with a chance. So, what is the prize? A desktop calendar made with photos taken on my hikes in the Netherlands this year.

So, on to the actual photo. Where was this photo taken? Have you ever been? Tell us your story. Answer and winner next week!

Well I have no hesitation in shouting THE LITTLE MERMAID - I am pretty sure this is the Copenhagen version. (I know there are other mermaids around the place...) ('ve only ever seen the Mermaid of the North, so no, I haven't been! YAM xx

  2. Het is de kleine zeemeermin in de haven van Kopenhagen.
Wij bezochten deze stad op 30 december 2014 tijdens een enerverende trip naar Denemarken (problemen met de verwarming in ons gehuurde huis).

  3. Thank you for my point for last weeks photo.

First of all, I thought this was the Statue of The Loreley at Koblenz, but then remembered I saw her from the opposite bank of the Rhine and she was high up and not near the water as your photo is.

The only other statue like this I can think of is The Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen harbour. I have not been to Copenhagen, but have visited Legoland and stayed in the Esbjerg area.

  5. Copenhagen...not Scotland. Of course I googled it and there is one in Scotland. Good to know I do remember things from the past even if I am an old gray mare.

  6. That's the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen, Denmark. We've never seen it in person but have seen it on TV before. It's nice of you to tell us about your travels as we will probably never have the opportunity to visit across the pond in person.

  8. I think Venice has changed I have been there several times and not as a tourist, but it was as dirty or clean like other cities. The little Mermaid sits on a rock in Copenhaguen and you have to take a magnifier to see her !It's the same with our Manneken Pis !

  9. I believe I had that photo on a calendar from you back several years ago. I don't have a clue and I'm not going to google it and cheat.

  10. I have not seen this mermaid except in photos. I did see Lorelei on the Rhine. Of course that does not count. Ha. Klem
