On a recent walk I came across a bug hotel. Not much activity going on as I saw, until...
I focused on this room. I thought I saw a wasp fly in. And another one.
And lo and behold: there were wasps. In fact, the whole wet paper look was very likely made by the wasps. And yes, I kept quiet and didn't wave my arms about, so as not to disturb them any more than I aleady was.

ReplyDeleteI say, that is a six star residence right there!!! Lucky bugs. We have had wasps swarming in our outdoor annexe - they've source their nesting material from the ancient drawers in dad's works cabinets. A major clear out needed, but they are fascinating to watch! YAM xx
Ooh, it looks great, but might not be the best place for them. Go large bug hotel with a big room just for the wasps!
DeleteWe've been watching a wasp make a nest in the window bird feeder. (We've kept the feeder empty for the past several weeks so the grackles will stay away.) We're wondering what will happen if we put seeds in the feeder again.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting thing to happen upon. We bet lots of bugs would like to live in there.
ReplyDeleteI agree with YAM...wonder who constructed that work of art.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen anything like this...for bugs..well other than the Ant farms the kids had in elementary school

I have seen a number of bug hotels but haven't noticed any activity. Maybe I'm just not as patient as you.
ReplyDeleteI never saw any other bugs or flying creepies, just the wasps and they were easy to spot. I didn't have to wait that long.
DeleteI love it! What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting display. Not fond of the little flying bugs with the stingers. Have run into more than one hidden nest and paid for it during my 73 years. Glad you stayed safe.
