87 degrees

I am melting away. I must be, as I am constantly having to use a towel to dry my face, neck and the rest. The reason for that is the heatwave currently battering the country. And several others, but as I am not living in several others...

The summer so far had been good. Nice temperatures in which it was easy to work and play. But then the heat arrived. One day it was about 22 (72 F) degrees, the next day it had shot up to 32 (93 F)!

That in itself isn't so bad of course. As long as the airconditioning on the bus works and you can cool down once you're home, you are laughing. However, the first is meh at the moment due to having to open the doors all the time and it just being a bit much for the whole thing. The second is even worse: our inside temperature at the moment is over 30 degrees (87 F).

During the fire and water show back in 1991.
And yes, that's me!
I sleep in the attic. Fortunately with a fan, as without I would probably melt away in my mattress. I don't even want to know how hot it is up there. But even doing the simplest things downstairs in the house results in perspiration just streaming down.

From the weekend onwards rain and cooler weather is due to arrive. Yes please!!

  1. Oh I feel for you with the heat! Last summer we had a week of days over 40C and it was so horrible. You just can't make yourself do anything. Hopefully it will cool down soon.

    1. It's just that we are not used to it. The photo at the bottom of the post was taken in Italy back in the early '90's. There it was over 40 degrees as well, but we had gotten used to it gradually. Over here it just comes like a sledgehammer!

    1. 24? That sounds like bliss. For the next week, the night temperatures are still in the low 20's. Ah well, this will pass. And then we will moan about the rain most likely...

  4. We have long stretches here where the temps are high and the humidity is oppressive. Thankfully we have AC in our house. We don't know how you live without it.

  5. We've had some scorchers here too lately. We say, if it's not snow and ice, we'll take it! Stay cool!

  7. It has been a steamy summer here, and the AC (the other one.😀 ) has been working overtime.

  8. 87 in the Netherlands ? That's the boiling point nearly so you should be half cooked. As only Americans still use the Fahrenheit thing, I always write in Celius. Anyway we had much more ! Yesterday up to 38 ! We bought an air cooler that's a great thing not so expensive, it absorbs the hot air which goes through a filter with cold water and is ventilated into the room, or on you ! There are already big once from 89 € on. At least then it was bearable !! With my friends we go into the Lunchgarden for ice and coffee and sit there in the cool nice place for 23 h and chat !!

  9. I find attempts to sleep in temps above 21 C leaves my un-rested.
