Our first stop on Friday was a special stop. You may remember how Mara wrote about Harald Hårfagre a few years ago. And the monument that was raised in 1872 on the supposed millennium anniversary of his decisive battle to unite all provinces of the area to one Norway.
This decisive battle took place in/around Hafrsfjord (yes, that is spelled correctly) near current day Stavanger and in 1983 a monument was put up there to commemorate. Unfortunately not a lot of information was found on site, but Wikipedia knows a lot, so info on the battle and some info on the monument. Which is called Sverd i Fjellet (Sword in the Mountain).
I just know we both loved the site and were very happy with the photos we took. Especially since on our way back it had started to rain!

ReplyDeleteOh that is very impressive, Mouse! I really like that monument. Thank you for showing it to us and pointing to the history. Have a good Sunday with Mara now... hugs and squeaks, YAM-aunty xxx
It was quite impressive how the blades actually looked like used blades. They were really massive and will make a perfect photo for my wall again...
DeleteI think Brom might be getting jealous.
ReplyDeleteThose are talllllllllllllllllllllllll and purrty
ReplyDeleteMara your 'cussin' inspired me. LOL
I found a place on my dr's portal for compliments and complaints....let me just say I did not write a compliment. Now if someone will just read it...I'm expecting they have a business manager or dept that takes care of this portion of portal and hopefully they are more efficient than the medical (un) professionals!!
Hugs Cecilia
Wow! We love to learn about things like this!
ReplyDeleteWell good! I too like to find out new things about Norway, but I must admit I had some serious problems pronouncing Hafrfjord!
DeleteThank you for a wonderful history lesson! We did notice that some Norwegian words look like the Scrabble letters before they are sorted out BOL!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Well, now you know: if you have those letters: they are a place name and cannot be used!!
DeleteOh wow!! What a beautiful shot of you at this very historical site, Mouse!

ReplyDeleteWell, they were standing at around 10 meters each! Plenty big.
