Christmas dinner

Left: two plates bought in England around 1993.
Middle: two plates (of six, the others are gone) with Jip and Janneke
Right: one plate that has been with me since childhood
Is it too early? If not, please read on and if it is: please read on or go away and do your laundry or some such.

Last year I invited my parents over for Christmas. And then my sister as well. And then another couple were thinking of traveling with my parents and I have known her all my life and he belongs to her and they are fine, so before I knew it, I was not going to be alone, there were going to be six (as in 6) people around the dinner table.

I had a little problem though: I only have five dinner plates. Mismatched. One with a few chips. Two with cartoons on them. As for soup plates/bowls: one plate and three bowls. Again, mismatched. So, when I was in the Netherlands last week, I went on the look-out for some plates. I even found one I liked (and liked the price of). They only had five, they couldn't order any more and none of the other stores in town had any left. Back to square one.

Today I had half a day of work and I thought: why not have a look. Looking doesn't cost anything. Off I went to the shopping center. Looking. The first shop had some plates, but none to my liking. The second shop had some really pretty soup plates, but not pretty enough. I glanced over to a display. 50% off. Hm.

I came away with 6 dinner plates, 6 soup plates, 6 cups and saucers (yes, the proper ones). While I was at it, I also bought some desert bowls (glass, I don't like those in porcelain) and some other items belonging to the plate pattern.

I was only looking!

    1. Fortunately I had some money left over after my holiday! Because even with a 50% discount, it wasn't cheap. But very lovely, so it's okay.

    1. That is something I have managed to avoid so far. But never say never of course, you never know: next week might be drop-a-plate-a-day week!

  5. Good for you for not hesitating. We all know they wouldn't be there the next time you go shopping.

    1. Looking is dangerous. Then again, if I would have waited, I might not have found this set and/or I would have had to pay a lot more money!
