Doing the domestic

Those of you who know me personally will know that me and domestic are two things that don't really go well together. I may be pretty obsessed about my books being in alphabetical order and my wardrobes are tidy as well, but when it comes to tidying and such...

However, a few weeks ago I needed to get out the ironing board so I could iron my lace-trimmed bonnet, apron and shawl. With starch as well! It took a few hours and when I was finished I couldn't be bothered to put away the ironing board. So, today I thought, well, it's out anyway, I might as well do some ironing.

My work shirts and some handkerchiefs, pillow cases and a large sheet. Because there is nothing nicer than sliding into a fresh bed with ironed sheets. Apart from the ironing, I have also been doing the dishes regularly lately.

I wonder how long this domesticity will last?

    1. I used to do it, then I stopped and now I started again. Don't know how long it will last though. I don't do the tea towels anymore though, so I am mad, but not that mad!

  2. Occasionally SHE irons the pillow cases......but not sheets. And definitely not much in winter. But we dogs keep HER tidying up because we like to bring things inside like sticks and leaves and dirt.....and we de-stuff stuff.

    1. Well, this winter I didn't do much at all. Miss Oswin is quite good in not bringing in all sorts of things (or little critters) from the outside. Dirt is of course another matter altogether! And the hair she produces: don't get me started on that!

Yikes. Check your temperature! ...Hehehe... no I know what you mean. Ironing is a chore of last resort for the YAMster... though am pretty good at everything else... Enjoy it whilst it lasts, feel no guilt if it doesn't! YAM xx

    1. I actually don't mind ironing. Not like I hate doing the dishes (and I have been quite good at doing them as well, go figure). And I always feel guilty about not doing the housework, but never enough to then actually do much of it...

  5. Hey Mara!
Wow, my Mom NEVER irons! She absolutely hate it. She'll run something through the dryer and fluff to avoid ironing. Dad will do it though if he has to. Mom also makes me andDad leave the house when she cleans...we get in her way! BOL And my fur is everywhere.
I'm looking forward to seeing Miss Oswin and Brom at the dance today! They look fabulous, of course. Miss O is gorgeous. We will all have a wonderful time!

    1. Ah, but I don't have a dryer! Which means that fluffing it up would be quite impossible!

The post about the dance will be on Saturday, I am quite busy up to then, only just having enough time to answer all the comments.

  6. Our mom would have to DUST and WASH the Iron and Ironing Board before using them... Just sayin.

    1. That's something I never do: babysitting. I used to quite a bit of it in my teens, but after my last job looking after children I decided the next ones would be my own and they never came. Now it's just me and Miss Oswin.

    1. It feels so good. Unfortunately that good feeling is usually gone by night 2! But still, those first couple of nights: heaven!!

  13. Way to go Mara! We have a large closet so the iron and board can stay up all the time. I iron each top I wear before I go out!
