Sunday

I have been in my new place now for a week and to celebrate that, my sister and I went to a not so far away garden. Not just any garden either: a butterfly garden. Well, greenhouse really, because they were tropical butterflies. It wasn't big by any means, but it kept us occupied for part of the afternoon anyway.

The best shot I got of the large blue butterflies
The other one I got was of two of them, with their wings closed!
We saw some beautiful butterflies and we were able to photograph most of them on our phones (I had conveniently forgotten to take my camera, sigh). There was however one butterfly that proved to be a bit elusive, although we both managed to capture it eventually.

After the butterflies we made our way outside (in the drizzle) to visit a pheasantry (not a pheasant in sight) and a maze. As you may remember my sister has a system that always works in mazes. Apart from in this one, because there were so many dead ends. We did finally manage to find the center and then had to find our way back out again, which took nearly as much time as finding the center did!

Entrance to the maze. Not big, but difficult!
Then it was time for tea and a scone/cake, since halfway through the maze, the drizzle had turned into rain and we both needed something warm and filling.

It was a lovely afternoon to celebrate my new home.

I love butterfly houses... and mazes. My dad taught me many a decade ago that one ought to stick to the Left and never leave it and it will eventually take one all the way. Long, but not lost. YAM xx

    1. Yes, that system is what my sister's system. Which didn't work because of all the dead ends. It was fun though.

    2. ...it will take one down the dead ends, but just stick to that left 'wall'. That is why it is the longer way, but the only sure way... just think of it in a house. You go in the front door and stick to the left wall. It takes you into the parlour, the kitchen, the bathroom, the hall cupboard (dead-end). Because you are holding that hall it has to go round ALL corners and nooks, but what goes in must come out. So out the cupboard you come, into the living room, the family room, the walk-in store room (dead-end) and finally back to the front door... Yxx

  2. Butterflies are beautiful, unfortunately we don't have many anymore here in our garden ! People here would rather do a rain dance because it hasn't rained for weeks and our grass is yellow now and we don't have to mow that's the good thing !

  3. What a fun way to spend time together even if you did get a little wet in the maze.

  4. We have a butterfly garden here in Rochester N.Y. Ghostwriter said there are little quail running around in there too. Glad you had a fun day!

    1. There was only one hall with butterflies, the other one contained some parrots (caged) and tortoises/turtles. Then there was a third smaller hall with cockroaches, spiders and a snake.

  5. What a great afternoon. I know it sounds silly but I envy you that rain. We are in the middle of a heatwave and the humidity is awful. It must be a real joy to be able to spend time with your sister. Now you are settled I look forward to hearing more about meeting the community. Will you be taking up fiddle playing, folk singing or maybe Irish dancing?

    1. Meeting the community? Are you joking? For one: I am working way too much to do much else. As for fiddle playing, folk singing and Irish dancing... not really, I am of the spectator variety, not the participator variety!
