Takk

I drive a bus for a living as you know. I pick up passengers en route and drop them off en route. Children, teenagers, young adults, adults, old adults. All wanting to go somewhere.

I try to say good morning or hello to each passenger. Most will answer, some will grunt. A few won't even acknowledge me. They sit down or if the bus is full, stay standing. They get jostled through the streets of Haugesund and beyond.

They press the stop button when they need to get off. Most of the time they will just get off. But sometimes? A wave, a nod. A 'takk for turen' (thank you for the trip). I may not always smile at it, but to know I am appreciated feels good, especially if it's unexpected.

I can't say 'takk for turen' to you. But I will say takk to you anyway. Because I am thankful for all my faithful readers who come back again and again to read about what I, Miss Oswin and Brom get up to.

Takk!

  1. I always notice the difference between the people and drivers in the English buses. They all say thank you and often the driver greets you with "Hello Darling" or "My love", they are all so friendly ! And then I come back and the bus drivers here are frankly impolite !

    1. As long as you're not asking me to pronounce it: I am very happy to have met you too. A voice of reason in this world of craziness.

  4. I always have my preschoolers say thank you to our bus drivers when we go on field trips! Good manners are a good thing.

  5. I haven't taken public transit for a long, long time now, but I never thought of chatting up the driver. I don't know why. Seems like a good plan.
