Even though I love Christmas with all its trimmings, after two weeks of decorations and stuff, I do get a bit tired of them. Which means time to clear them away for next year.
All my Christmas decorations had been in five cardboard boxes. But it was all higgledy-piggledy without any system at all. So, I decided to invest in some plastic lidded crates and get everything organised.
And after two days of semi-hard work, I now have two cardboard boxes, albeit not full to the brim and extremely heavy; five larger crates and four smaller crates. Containing everything from rubber duckies to plates and tea towels to the little baby Jesus (the knitted version).
Now I just have to lug them all upstairs...
Mom loves putting stuff out but (which she didn't do much of this year because everything was in the garage under the Christmas tree box that she could not lift alone) putting it up is not fun.
ReplyDeleteHugs madi your bfff
Mom figured out that if she doesn't put up much then she doesn't have to take down much. It was a wonderful epiphany!

Oh, good thinking! Won't do that just yet though. And next year I will rope in my family to help put up and take down...
DeleteDad put all the decorations away in plastic bins too! Not much work since he didn't do much decorating in the first place. Maybe next year!
ReplyDeleteI have finally realised that plastic bins are just a bit better than cardboard boxes. They stay in shape for one!
DeleteI will start later this week. We bought new bins this year so I have some repacking to do. Great job Mara!
ReplyDeleteWe will be snoopervising Mama this afternoon as she clears out our Christmas!

I have containers to put all my holiday stuff away too. They store nicely on shelves in our basement.
ReplyDeleteWE think you did an OUTSTANDING job of Organizing all the stuffs.. and getting everythingy Safely Stored fur like 50 weeks... VERY Smart of you.
ReplyDeleteCrikey ..... how organised are you?? It all be so much easier for you next year, aye??
ReplyDeleteOh yes. At least it should. And with every container labeled....
DeleteThere's something to be said for the simpler after Christmas look.
ReplyDeleteYou need a dolly to help with lugging. We have two different ones, a flat bed and a two wheeler. Really use both of them as our parking place is about 100 feet from our apartment. Fewer trips and less breakage.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't work. They have to go up two floors. First up the stairs, which is not that big a problem. Then up a flight of stairs/ladder which is difficult empty-handed, let alone with a plastic bin.
DeleteUnless of course you meant a Dolly. As in a woman with a pair of hands. That would work. I just give her the bins and she lugs them upstairs. I like that idea a lot!
