I caught this fish yesterday, but we don't quite know what it is (the name Barracuda was thrown about), I just know it had several rows of vicious looking teeth, spiky fins and after filleting, there wasn't much meat left!

  1. Its head is the biggest part of it. Was the fish tasty?

    1. The head was huge! And it was the last one to be taken by the gulls. As for the taste? I haven't tried it yet, but there is so little of it, I might just boil and feed to Miss Oswin (after having taken the bones out of course).

Well, now I can't recall without tracking back whether you were fishing fresh or seawater... either this site or possibly this one may help you, as you know better what its details are close up. As I don't think it is listed in either of these based on what I see, I am going to suggest you offer it to the local science museum and have it dubbed the Greater-eyed Mara-besque!!! YAM xx

    1. Well, so far I have been told it's a rabbit fish! Might be something else though...

  5. A RABBIT fish???? Don't look like no rabbit I've ever seen. Awful skinny lookin' bloke. Could he swim real fast. Those rabbits can run fast but not as fast as me!

    1. It wasn't a rabbit fish. It's a gunnard (or gurnard). Next time I catch one of those, it will be going straight back in: too much work for too little result (ie meat).

  6. Doesn't look too appealing to me, but I'm not a fish guy for the most part.

  7. It looks a little scary!!! We've never seen anything like it, but we are glad Miss Oswin enjoyed it!!
