Counting my blessings

Reflecting on life at Ryvarden Lighthouse
Photo taken by my friend UL
Having all of a sudden been bombarded with bad thoughts (and with bad thoughts, I mean really really bad thoughts) last week, this week has fortunately been much better.

On Monday I got to see a lovely lady who was able to put a few things in perspective for me. Very helpful. We talked for about an hour and even though I had a little cry, I came out of that meeting feeling much better than I had. When at work afterwards, I told them I would give up the team leader job and it was like a stone lifted as well. They told me that they were sorry, since they felt I did a good job. Which lifted me even more, but not enough to want the job back.

Never too old for the swing!
On Tuesday I had to see my gp. Well, the replacement to the replacement really. But, he listened to me, give me a sick note for two weeks and a referral to a psychologist. That will take a while, but I am feeling much better now, so perhaps some time to put things in perspective might help me a bit.

Not only did I see the gp, it was of course my birthday and I got a great gift: the camera. At the moment it is called This One, as opposed to the other one that is called The Other One. Very imaginative I know! Suggestions are welcome! And then in the evening I had some colleagues come over for apple pie and got more gifts.

Yes, I walked through a marshy area and got out again the other side!
Any problem with that?
On Wednesday I took it easy. Went for a little walk, took some photos and wrote in my diary that I started last week. I decided that I would write the whole story down once and for all and I must admit, even though there were some not so good memories, most of the memories were fairly painless. And some were even fairly funny, despite the circumstances. In the evening another colleague/friend came by with Thai food.

Yesterday I got picked up in the morning by my friend/colleague and was taken to her childhood haunt. A beautiful spot and we spent a couple of hours there. On my return home I found I had a birthday card (thank you Pepperfly). And even though the day finished with a thunderstorm, it wasn't a heavy one and it didn't take long.

So, my blessings this week have been plentiful. And the week isn't even over yet!

This post is prompted by Spin Cycle. Thank you Ginny Marie at Lemon Drop Pie.

  3. Glad to hear that the lady was able to help you and I think you decision to not be the team leader was a good choice for now. Writing is an excellent way to get our troubles out and off our chest. Glad that your blessing were plentiful this week. ((Hugs))

  4. I love that picture of the lighthouse! Sometimes I feel exactly like that cow. We'll get through to the other side, too! You have been going through a lot these past few years. Hang in there, and keep doing what you're doing!

  5. I suppose a GP is a doctor, because we don't have GPs here, everybody can go to the doctor he wants to. That's a good idea that he gave you 2 weeks off and also a psychologist can halp you if it is a good one ! But that you only know afterwards ! Writing helps, that's an excellent therapy especially for those who love to write !

  6. Mara,, so pleased the week is better. Glad you were able to talk things over. Journaling can do so much to clear the dust our of one's attic, so to speak. Love the cow photo and your comments! Have a delightful weekend.

    1. I certainly can, not so sure about the canon itself though. There are some features that annoy me a fair bit: the not being able to zoom in enough for example! I need another lens for that, but they don't come cheap!

    1. And being dragged out of the house or getting visitors certainly help me do those things.

  9. It seems like you have much support, which is wonderful. The writing will probably help too -- at least I hope so.

  10. Crikey Mara ..... you're going to be fine. I just know it. It sounds as if you have some good people around you and writing things down ALWAYS helps. Well it does for my Mum. Aunty reckons you should call your camera CAN- DO cause you can, aye?? Good suggestion coming from someone who called her camera, FUDGE!! Fudge ...... good grief!! Wonder where she got that from?? I rather liked your choice of 'this one' and the reasoning behind it. That sounds just like Mum's sort of reasoning. That cow picture is great. My Mum loves cows ..... a LOT!!!! I like 'em too. I'm not game to chase 'em though. They are mighty big, aye?? AND they came straight at you and STARE at you!! What's with that??
I sure hope there's lots more blessings heading your way!!!!

    1. There is a field right by my house and sometimes there are cows in there as well. They look so nice and gentle. A cousin of mine went 'cow-hugging' the other day. Apparently it is quite therapeutic as well. Just lying down with cows and giving them lots of cuddles.

As for the camera name, I am still looking, but I am afraid I will end up with This One. Or perhaps I will go for the Dutch translation and just say: Deze!
