Photo on Sunday 2014-26

During my week's holiday in the Netherlands I was able to indulge in several food wishes. Like proper patat with mayo, frikandellen en kroketten, a tosti and poffertjes. And ice cream. Now, you would think that in a cold country like Norway they can do ice. Think again. Not a single Italian gelateria* to be found! Perhaps they think it is too cold!

But I did indulge back home. Twice! First with some cinnamon ice cream (mmmm) from a gelateria in Zwolle and later that day a white chocolate and smurf ice cream from a snack bar somewhere in the country side. I could have one right now! For breakfast!!

*gelateria: from gelato, the Italian word for ice cream

  1. Hm....I can almost taste that lovely ice cream again by looking at the photo. (The cherry yoghurt one, not the smurfy thingy you got.) I guess I moved to the right (ice cream) place, don't you agree?

    1. Totally agree, although I would only pick the white chocolate one next time!

  3. Where Sue lived in Toronto, back in the mists of time, we'd sometimes walk to a stall where we could get "Italian Ice Cream".

  4. So what flavor is Smurf? My Sis, who is coming to stay for a few days tells me the Italian gelato is dreamy. Of course she was in Italy at the time. Looks like you had such fun on your trip home.

    1. It's some sort of chemical flavour. According to my nephew it is made with only artificial stuff. He is 10! But it tasted alright. The white chocolate however: divine!

On one of my many trips to Italy I had pistaccio ice cream. I don't like pistaccios, but I loved that ice cream.

  5. Ooh, I'm jealous. I can't have ice cream. Sigh. Life isn't always fair, though, is it? But I can be happy for you, because living in a country that has no ice cream must be beyond awful!
