Mr Pumpkinhead

When I was in Canada, the stores were filled with all things Hallowe'en, which was both great fun and a shame. The great fun of course was seeing all that stuff that I had previously only seen in films and on tv since we don't celebrate Hallowe'en in the Netherlands. At least not to the extent they do it in North America. The shame was about it not being Christmassy stuff that was out. Although that might have delayed my plans for moving a bit longer, since I would probably have needed another suitcase for all the stuff I might would have bought.

Anyway, as I was walking through one of the stores one day, I came across this one stand with all these outfits on. Witches and warlocks, ghosts and ghouls and of course pumpkins. But they weren't for you and me, no, they were for our little furry friends! And even though the outfits were quite pricey, I couldn't resist to pick out the pumpkin suit for the smallest dogs. I thought Mathilda would look grand in it, but of course she never got the opportunity to show it off. But I then realised Wuppie might look fantastic in it too, him being on the orange side already. The only question was: would it fit? Well, it did and there was room to spare.

Happy Hallowe'en everyone!

Hallowe'en

For some reason the people at Club Med think it's great fun to get dressed up. So, during my two seasons working as a GO, I dressed up on numerous occasions. Sometimes there was a directive as to how to dress: for example black and white, red and white, flowery or male/female, where all the women had to dress up like men and the men had to dress up as women. When you were in a show, you were dressed up with whatever the show required, although there was one outfit that was especially made for me (I showed it last year).

And then there were the living paintings, where they would set a theme and both the decor and the GO's would be in that theme. So, a lot of years ago (1991 to be exact), during the autumn we had a Eastern/Saharan theme. Lots of sand, good-looking sheiks, camels and harem girls. I was one of the harem girls and I was absolutely freezing! Being dressed like this ànd sitting in front of the front door which opened out to minus ten degrees Celsius is not my idea of fun.

Dressing up!

Well, because today is Hallowe'en, I've decided to post a photo of myself all dressed up. I had quite a bit of choice, but in the end I chose this photo. It was taken by a professional photographer while I worked for Club Med in Tignes, France. I am dressed and made up for the "Rocky Horror Show". I was one of the chorus girls, but was completely in the front of the line-up (to the chagrin of the choreographer who was behind me). It had been put together by a German ski-teacher who liked me and my outfit looked absolutely stunning: Madonna bra, hotpants (with gold opaque tights though) and high heels.

I also put up my hair. It was quite long in those days and I would completely brush it forward, put half a toilet roll on my head and then cover it with hair again. Lots of kirby grips and even more hairspray would make it look fantastic. At the end of the evening it would take me about two hours to get it back to normal to avoid a splitting headache! The make-up (as you cannot see) is heavy and black.

Happy Hallowe'en!!!
