The change-over

She was outside for several hours on New Year's Eve. I got quite worried because she wouldn't come home.
She did in the end though and before it was dark and the fireworks started.
I never mind spending Christmas and/or New Year's on my own, in fact, I quite often want it like that. But this year I did spend New Year's with my friend. We had some drinks, had some food, had snacks. Saw some television, including a hilarious performance of Peter Pan and comforted Miss Oswin.

Miss Oswin is not a lap cat. She sits on my lap occasionally, but that usually lasts about 5 minutes, before she's off to her preferred places: box, floor, cupboard. But on New Year's Eve, she was close and stayed close. Not because she had all of a sudden decided to like that, but because she was quite frightened of the fireworks going off outside.

It wasn't a massive amount, but cats do have really good hearing and those type of loud noises are not something they like. But she was quite comfortable on the couch between me and my friend. Until a bit before midnight, when she decided she had had enough. More, closer and louder bangs finally made her disappear under the sofa. Until the banging had stopped and she found her place on the floor again. No need for any more comforting thank you very much!

  1. I hardly heard the fireworks on New Year's Eve in the city this time. It depends on which way the wind is blowing. No scary times this year!

    1. It's not as bad as it used to be in the Netherlands, where it seemed as if all hell broke loose at 12.01.

  2. Me and Stanley aren't scared of fireworks but we'd rather be in the house. And we are lap dogs - big time!

  7. Did not hear a lot of fireworks on New Years at midnight but over night the thunderstorms gave some loud burns. Love how cats have such different personalities.

    1. All my other ones were also afraid and would crawl in any available 'safe' place they could find. Mind you, in the Netherlands it's ten times worse than it is here.

  8. Crikey Ms Oswin ... I'm glad you got inside before the fireworks started. Outside would have been much scarier than on the couch with Mara and her friend aye?? Happy New Year to you all.

    1. I was glad she got inside. I tried to get her inside four or five times, calling out like a mad cat woman, until she finally just sauntered up as if nothing was wrong.
